Karen Walco

Karen Walco is the proud owner and director of Dance Dimensions, which she founded in 1999 with a vision of creating a studio where every dancer could feel welcomed, challenged, and inspired.

Karen's love for dance began at a young age. After growing up competing locally, she quickly discovered that dance was more than something she loved to do—it was something she wanted to share with others. She began teaching at just 14 years old, and her passion for teaching ultimately led her to open Dance Dimensions and create a studio built on diversity, structure, discipline, passion, and versatility.

Throughout her career, her dancers and choreography have earned numerous honors, including Best Studio, Studio of the Year, ADCC, Overall High Score Awards, Choreography Awards, Entertainment Awards, Industry Awards, and many other regional and national recognitions.

One of Karen's greatest accomplishments is watching Dance Dimensions grow into a studio known not only for strong dancers and successful performances, but also for its sense of family and community. Under her direction, Dance Dimensions has also been honored as Albany's Best Dance Studio multiple years in a row.

Karen is especially proud of the many students who have taken the training, discipline, confidence, and passion they developed at Dance Dimensions and gone on to build successful careers and continue their education in the dance industry. Former students have performed in music videos, on cruise ships, on Broadway, and on television; competed on So You Think You Can Dance and with college dance teams; choreographed throughout the country; opened their own dance studios; and become teachers at Dance Dimensions and other studios. Seeing former students turn their love of dance into careers and then pass that passion on to the next generation is one of the most rewarding parts of Karen's journey as an educator.

For Karen, her goal is to help dancers become confident, disciplined, hardworking, passionate, versatile, and well-rounded individuals. She strives to provide a place where dancers of all backgrounds and abilities can be themselves, grow, work hard, and feel that they belong.

After decades of teaching, Karen's passion remains the same: to share her love of dance, inspire the next generation, and make Dance Dimensions a place dancers are proud to call home.
